San Diego, CA San Francisco Bay Area, CA San Diego, CA On August 23, 2009, the San Diego Padres and Genentech hosted the forth annual "Strike Out Cancer Day" at PETCO Park. To date, the program has raised nearly $45,000 to benefit the Cindy Matters Fund, the Padres' charity for fighting children's cancer. A home plate ceremony took place on the field to honor local cancer survivors. The family of Cindy Matters, for whom the Padres' organization is named, and cancer survivor, Casi Nagle, took the field together. Genentech Oceanside presented the Cindy Matters Fund with a donation check. During the game, local representatives of Strike Out Cancer partners distributed educational materials to fans in the stadium. 2009 Event Photos View more photos
