The 2007 season's activities culminated on Sunday, July 15, with the fourth annual "Strike Out Cancer Day" at AT&T Park hosted by the Giants and Genentech. Baseball Hall of Famer and Strike Out Cancer spokesman Paul Molitor led a pre-game ceremony on the field to honor nine Bay Area cancer survivors. Their personal stories aired on the ballpark video board, offering hope and encouragement to fans seeking support in coping with cancer.
Breast cancer survivor Evelyn White — a Giants front office employee for 13 years — sang the National Anthem. After the ceremony, all the honorees took the field with the Giants' starting lineup, and a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor threw the ceremonial first pitch.
Throughout the game, fans took advantage of the opportunity to receive information about cancer resources, and provided support through donations as part of a game-day raffle run by volunteers from Genentech for Giants memorabilia. This year's raffle raised more than $16,000 for Genentech's Strike Out Cancer partners.
Since the program's inception in 2004, Strike Out Cancer has raised more than $400,000 for The Wellness Community, enabling Bay Area residents who are affected by cancer to access the resources that best meet their individual needs.
